Home Entertainment Technology

I just can't help myself as I look at the TV screen where some rap star or overpaid NBA player shows MTV camera crews around his expensively and poorly decorated "crib" and then –

There it is: rows and rows of comfy, cushioned recliners with cup-holders, stadium speakers, 10,000 channels, 18 remote controls and a screen bigger than the trade deficit...

(Is that drool on my chin?)

Then, suddenly, I'm motioned away from the storefront windows with a threat of "a bash to the head" like I'm some Dickens street urchin. Protect and serve, my ___!

With the advancements in home entertainment technology, there simply is no way to not be entertained. At first, home entertainment units were worth up to $10,000. Now they are the equivalent of the mortgage payment on your new condominium – still too much for apartment-style dwelling but just right for ocular occupation. The glorious thing about home entertainment units is that the screens have gotten bigger as the prices have dropped. The Hitachi 55HDM7 55" 1366X760/DVI/HD Plasma can be found for a mere $3,599.99!

Despite what Spain’s fashion industry is saying, thin definitely is “in” for home entertainment this season (and every season). Home entertainment televisions are saturated with plasma/LCD technology which is the epitome of the new skinny jean – I mean screen...screen. These home entertainment units take up less space than their bulky predecessors and give the illusion of home entertainment technology's absence from your home. (Rather funny for a society where TV watching dominates everything else in life.) But now men (and some women – I'm not leaving you out, ladies) have something they can ogle besides their female companions. Take that, supermodels!

Besides big and thin screens, shopping for home entertainment technology can get complicated. There are more options at your local Best Frye City Megaplex Store than at any Dunkin' Caribou Bucks.

Let's try to assemble the scenario:

-The new Samsung Blu-Ray Disc player (BD-P1000), which makes HDTV screens even clearer and brighter

-A 63" screen (take your pick because this time size is all that matters)

-A Bose sound system (just in case you didn't quite catch that Samuel L. Jackson line the first time)

-And a Lazyboy...self-explanatory...

With a system like this, you will be propelled into the future faster than Nancy Grace can offend her next crying guest. "Goodbye eyes and ears, hello cataracts and – WHAT DID YOU SAY?"

Describing the intricacies and constantly-changing innovations in home entertainment technology would take far too much time. You simply must shop around and see it for yourself, but at a safe distance, because one pixel does neither home entertainment nor your retina any justice.
